The Farra Eye Model is a low-cost, anatomically realistic 3D-printed simulator developed to support cataract surgery training—particularly for practicing continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC).
In a validation study involving ophthalmology residents and experienced surgeons, participants used the model to perform simulated CCC and evaluated its realism and training effectiveness. The results showed strong face and content validity, with users highlighting its usefulness for:
practicing CCC technique,
improving hand-eye coordination,
building surgical confidence,
providing an accessible alternative to expensive commercial simulators.
Although some noted that the capsule material felt slightly less elastic than a real human capsule, overall, the Farra Eye Model proved to be a valuable and practical tool for cataract surgery training.
